Faceted search
Filters shoppers narrow by — price, brand, size — shown as live counts next to the results they'd produce.
Facets are the filterable, countable side of a collection's schema: mark a field facetable and every search response returns not just hits but how many results each value of that field would leave, computed for the current query and any filters already applied.
This is what turns a search box into a browse page: category listings, faceted navigation and “refine your search” panels all read from the same facet counts a text query would, so a shopper narrowing by brand and then price sees numbers that always match what clicking through actually returns.
