Merchandising
Editorial control over search results: pins, boosts, exclusions, banners and campaigns.
Not every result should be decided by an algorithm. Merchandising rules let a human pin a product to the top of a query, boost a category or brand, exclude recalled items, or attach a banner — with a start and end date for seasonal campaigns.
Good merchandising coexists with relevance: rules are scoped to queries or filters, every rule change is measurable in analytics, and A/B experiments can check that a rule helps rather than hurts.
